Union Pacific and Katoen Natie Announce Dallas to Dock Service
Omaha, Nebraska, May 16, 2016
Union Pacific and Katoen Natie today announced their new Dallas to Dock service that provides plastic producers with a low cost export solution for plastic pellets, expanding their reach overseas.
The Dallas to Dock service transports plastic pellets in hopper cars from the Gulf region and ships the product to Dallas, where the pellets are packaged and transferred into intermodal containers. The containers then travel to ocean ports via Union Pacific’s premium intermodal service.
To support the Dallas to Dock service, a state-of-the-art plastic packaging facility will be constructed in Dallas in the Prime Pointe Industrial Park (Prime Pointe is a 3,000-acre rail served industrial park located in South Dallas County served by Union Pacific.) Adjacent to Union Pacific's Dallas Intermodal Terminal (DIT), the facility will have approximately 500,000 square feet of warehouse space with railroad access. Scheduled for completion in third quarter 2017, the facility will become the 15th location in North America for Katoen Natie, packaging industry leaders.
"The new plastic packaging facility is strategically located in Dallas to align with empty container availability and our premier intermodal service to the West Coast for export," said Beth Whited, Union Pacific vice president – Chemicals. "Our expedited intermodal service offers four-day transit to the West Coast ports." Union Pacific also offers international intermodal service between Dallas and Houston.
"This location is a great extension of the Katoen Natie Global logistics network. It provides our customers flexibility for their far east export needs out of the U.S. Gulf," said Frank Vingerhoets, president of Katoen Natie USA.
